Oct

on Halloween
Tickets:

Early Bird (purchase before 10/1/07), otherwise
$15
Count
Dracula is finally dead. Or is he?
A
handful of survivors from Bram Stoker's original
tale have been locked up in Dr. John Seward's
insane asylum, their minds having proved too fragile
to withstand Dracula's terror. Dr. Seward has
developed a fascinating new therapy to restore
his tortured patients to sanity. They are using
puppets to relive the events of the novel and
to reach an understanding of what REALLY happened
when they fell under Dracula's evil spell. On
the verge of a monumental breakthrough, Dr. Seward
is inviting a knowledgeable audience to witness
the proceedings. Monkey Wrench Puppet Labs dares
you to observe these controversial techniques
as we probe the damaged minds of the victims of
the Dark Prince.
This
mesmerizing new puppet spectacle is brought to
you by the talented puppeteers of Monkey Wrench
Puppet Labs, the creators of Frankenocchio, Jello-A-Go
Go, Halfpenny Opera and Drunk Puppet Nite. In
Dracula:A Case Study, Seattle's favorite puppeteers
use a compelling assortment of puppet styles,
projections, acting and music to recreate the
inner workings of a Victorian-era insane asylum.
The show is written and directed by Brian Kooser,
the mastermind behind Frankenocchio. In addition
to the puppet talents of Monkey Wrench Puppet
Labs, Dracula presents the original music of Ensemble
Sub Masa to create a puppet tale unlike anything
you've even seen.
Monkey
Wrench Puppet Lab is a collective of puppeteers
dedicated to sharing tools, space, time, ideas
and artistic leadership to generate beautiful,
passionate, and ridiculous puppet plays and events.
Monkey Wrench Puppet Lab was formed to create
a community of puppet artists interested in reviving
and exploring the theatrical, societal, and political
possibilities of this sacred art of bringing an
inanimate object to life.

Jayson
McDonald: Giant Invisible Robot
Oct
23 - 24, 8 PM
Tickets:
$12
at Brown Paper Tickets
Russel is quite a reserved man—introspective,
unobtrusive and painfully shy. As a child he had
one true—albeit invisible—friend.
But Russel’s friend was a little different
from other kids’ imaginary playmates…he
was a Giant Invisible Robot programmed to destroy.
And, unlike other kids who grow up and abandon
their imaginary friends, Russel has managed to
maintain his friendship with Robot over the years,
forming an indivisible bond…even though
Russel is continuously frustrated by Robot’s
need to destroy whole cities and Robot must constantly
suppress his programming to avoid crushing Russel
like an ant.
Jayson
McDonald returns to Theatre Off Jackson with his
riveting one man show, Giant Invisible Robot.
McDonald is a Canadian playwright, director and
performer. He is the creator of the radio-noir
parody series The Boneyard Man and is a member
of alt-comedy sketch group Fully Insured. In addition
to his serial theatre work, he's participated
in over eighty different stage productions with
various Southwestern Ontario theatre companies.

Von
Foxies Burlesque 3rd Birthday Extravaganza
Nov
16 - 17, 8 PM
Tickets:
$15-20
at Brown Paper Tickets
It's
been three years since the inception of the Von
Foxies and every day just gets sicker! Join your
favorite pretty perverts for their third birthday
party. This year the Foxies will celebrate by
bringing you full circle- on top of their newest
numbers the ladies will perform the very first
numbers they ever created. Pidgeon's been a tramp,
Elsa cooks up delicacies, Heidi
has some Oedipal issues, and everyone loves a
sweet little lesbian Elvis. As always, the Foxies
are joined by a team of twisted stagemates. Maggie
MCs the evening no doubt spilling her whiskey
in the process, Randy Andy gets cheesy, Mama Lou
shows her muscles, and Honeysuckle Hype tickles
your taste buds.
Noise
makers! Party hats! Birthday cake! Dirty Raffle!
And the selling of our sweet little asses as one
lucky audience member gets to deliver the birthday
spankings. We'll see you there!
The Von Foxies are Seattle's hottest burlesque
power-trio: Pidgeon Von Tramp, Heidi Von Haught
and Elsa Von Schmaltz. They have honed their skills
under the bright lights of the Emerald City stages
and have been taking their little town by storm
since November of '04. These kinky minxes enjoy
playing with the boundaries of sexuality, gender
and decency while engaging in their distinctive
brand of bait 'n switch bump 'n grind. They adore
burlesque in all its forms- traditional bombshell
beauty, queer gender-f*ck draglesque, hilariously
naughty satire and politically powerful theatre.

reading of The Dining Room by A. R. Gurney
Monday
December 3, 7 PM
Tickets:
Pay What You Will
Company
Info: Our
American Theater
Before
there were “great rooms” and kitchen
islands; before most meals were eaten in the car
or in front of the t.v. or the computer, there
was the dining room—a central gathering
place for daily meals, family business and holiday
ritual. A.R. Gurney, the chronicler of all things
New England WASP, has created a magic cabinet
of a play to talk about the transformation of
the dining room throughout the 20th Century. The
endurance and tractability of the play lies in
its incisiveness, wit and tenderness. Add the
hat trick of six actors playing over 50 characters
in a whirlwind of shifting sketches, laid out
from early morning to the wee hours of night,
and it’s easy to understand why this extraordinarily
well made play is still so popular.
Directed
by Artistic Director Susanna Burney, this staged
reading promises a dynamic ensemble of Seattle
actors: Allan Armstrong, Chris Dietz, Heather
Hawkins, Marty Mukhalian, Hilary Pickles, and
Jonah Von Spreecken.
Our
American Theater Company is dedicated to bringing
to life the voices of the American theater, from
the classic, the obscure, the unsung to the new.
To work with actors, directors, designers and
educators; through readings, discussions and productions
that define the myriad voices that comprise our
American identity, and its contemporary role in
our complex world today.

Boy in the Beastly City, by Sgt. Rigsby and
His Amazing Silhouettes
Thurs - Sat, Jan. 24— Feb. 16 7:30 PM
Tickets:
$15 at Brown Paper Tickets
Part of Augustson’s “Sgt. Rigsby & His Amazing Silhouettes” canon, A Boy in the Beastly City makes hay with some of its creator’s favorite subjects: kids and animals. Moko the Monkey is kidnapped by wicked animal traders and taken to the Big Bad City where unspeakable things will happen to him unless his best friend Raj can find and rescue him. Along the way, Raj meets other children searching for their lost animal friends and together they plot to outsmart the evildoers responsible. This adventure tale has all the usual suspects: mad scientists, fancy dancers, human sacrifices, funny drunks, randy zebras, and a singing chicken.
Puppets can be fun for everyone, but please, leave the children home this time; this play is delightfully inappropriate for youngsters.
Featuring
Scot Augustson, Stephen Hando, Keri Healey, Evan
Mosher, Rachel Hynes and directed by Tom Milewski.

Info: Our
American Theater
Some say Sam Shepard got a Pulitzer Prize for BURIED CHILD, because he didn¹t get one for CURSE OF THE STARVING CLASS. In any event, add this to the canon of great American plays: A family comes apart at the seams as Father, Mother, Son and Daughter each fight tooth and nail for the survival of the family farm.
A staged reading of this explosive, ground breaking play (which includes the evocative stage direction, ³Wesley unzips his fly, takes out his pecker, and starts pissing all over the [4-H] chart on the floor.²), will be directed by Aimee Bruneau and feature a cast of Seattle¹s finest actors. A staged reading of CURSE OF THE STARVING CLASS by Sam Shepard is part of our Third Season we're calling ³Our American Table.²
The reading will be followed by a brief discussion with the cast and director.

Once again, it’s the time of year when all burlesque starlettes far and wide take to Las Vegas for the Miss Exotic World Striptease Reunion and Pageant. With help from our special guests, we’ll be solving the case in no time! Flamboyant, gay, socialist fashionista Ultra is sure to bring the house to its knees. A
reading of Picnic by William Inge

Info: Our
American Theater
Three years after his first success with COME BACK, LITTLE SHEBA (recently revived on Broadway), William Inge wrote a play in homage to the aching hearts of the women he'd grown up with in his mother's Kansas boarding house. "I saw their attempts (at happiness), and, even as a child, I sensed every woman's failure. I began to sense their sorrow and the emptiness of their lives, and it touched me."
It's Labor Day, and Madge, the town beauty, is weighing her options. She's lusted after by every fella around, but Alan, scion of a local industrialist, is serious about making her his own. Her widowed mother's dream of a picture perfect wedding is threatened when Hal, a handsome but troubled drifter comes unexpectedly into the picture. Explosive and graphic for its time--Inge's skills are at their best as he pulls into sharp focus the desires and motivations of these very human, small town American characters.
This One-Night-Only staged reading of PICNIC is directed by OAT Co. Artistic Director Susanna Burney and features an excellent cast of Seattle actors: Emily Cedergreen as Madge, Patrick Allcorn as Hal, Kelly Balch as Madge’s little sister Millie, and Deniece Bleha as Rosemary, the “spinster schoolteacher.” Marty Mukhalian, Ruth McRee, John Ulman, Chris Dietz, Jose Abaoag, Amber Wolfe and Samara Lerman round out the cast.
The reading will be followed by a brief discussion with the cast and director.

OATCO presents: Three Hotels by Jon Robin Baitz
Thurs - Sat, Jun. 12— 28 8:00 PM
Tickets:

Company
Info: Our
American Theater
THREE HOTELS by Jon Robin Baitz is an unflinching and deeply human examination of two lives collapsing under the weight of their participation in the multinational corporate world. Ken Hoyle is a hatchet man for a company that sells baby formula (often with disastrous results) to third world countries. It's been a long time since he and his wife Barbara were idealistic Peace Corps volunteers. But this moral compromise has taken its toll--in the worst way imaginable, and now Ken and Barbara have reached a point of no return.
In this three monologue journey, we sit in three hotel rooms in three different parts of the world and watch a man and a woman set out to parts unknown with much to contemplate, searching for answers and aching for redemption.

The Missoula Oblongata presents: The Last Hurrah of the Clementines
Weds Aug 20 8:00 PM
Tickets: $8 Advance/$10 at the door
Company Info: The Missoula Oblongata
Late one night, a stranger knocks at the door of the Clementine residence (and laboratory). Industriously sending eggs into outer space, sharpening knives, and engaging in higher mathematics, Mr. and Mrs. Clementine are suddenly called to live up to their vow: "We will harbor any fugitive, and ask questions later."
The Missoula Oblongata is an experimental theater company dedicated to creating and touring original work that defies the conventions and constrictions of conventional contemporary theatre. The company's DIY approach to lighting, sound, and set creation combines refined performances with artfully assembled "found" design schemes which, in the words of The Edmonton Sun, "transform the stage into a place of magic."
