shadow odyssey

(co-production with Printer's Devil Theater)

thu/fri/sat, oct 13-nov 5, 2011 pass

Shadow Odyssey, the latest puppet extravaganza from Scot Augustson!

Shadow Odyssey is a bold, hilariously left-handed adaptation of Homer's great epic. In the hands of director Jennifer Jasper, this highly theatrical event will put the audience inside a tent as live silhouettes and shadow puppets tell the story of the hero's long journey home from the war and the people who wait for him.

Picture this: you walk into a dimly lit tent. You sit back in a chair or get comfortable on a pile of pillows. Then, the show begins: on all four walls surrounding you (plus the roof above) live actors in silhouette, shadow puppets and hand drawn projections interact to bring to life Shadow Odyssey. Visually it's a mix of ancient and modern images.  Homer's themes resonate through the night: return from war, abandonment, longing for the past, the cruelty that good people are capable of and our tricky relationship with the dead.
